Joe on the Bottom Shelf: Is this you?

Let us talk about Joe a little bit

Have you ever met someone that watched the game? Let us just say his name is Joe. Joe knew the players. Joe knew the lingo. People in the game recognized Joe. They knew Joe was a part of the system. He had no official position on the team. Everyone knew him. He was always very friendly. Joe occasionally gave his opinion but was content to sit on the side lines. Nobody knew what Joe’s official title was, but they all assumed he did something. Joe might have even been in a few photos during one of the more spectacular contests. He didn’t play. Didn’t help much and was the first one gone at the end of a contest. Some wondered why he didn’t have a bigger role. Perhaps out on the field with the players.

If you replace Joe with your name is this a description of you as a part of the church. Are you content to be on the bottom shelf?

What does the Bible Say?

(Eph 5:23) The relationship that Jesus has with the Church is compared to a marriage. Can you just barely participate in a marriage? What kind of commitment should you be giving to Jesus? Do you just show up occasionally or are you an active part of his team? Do you disappear totally from his sight and only show up on special occasions?

God will give rewards at the judgment seat of Christ based on our faithfulness and service (2 Cor 5:10). God promises that our labor for him is well worth it. (1 Cor 15:58). (Gal 2:20) Paul says “I am crucified with Christ. Thus, I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” Would Jesus sit on the side lines? Would he sit on the sidelines or jump in and play hard?

How hard should you play for a coach (Jesus) who would die for you?
