A Little Piece of the Easter Story

Please read Matthew 27:1-26

Jesus had already been betrayed by Judas.  (v1) The Elders and Chief Priests wanted him dead.  Do you think Jesus knew that?  The Chief Priests and Elders knew the Ten Commandments.  They knew it was wrong to lie.  They knew it was wrong to kill.

They knew a way to get the Romans to do it.  They delivered him to the Pontius Pilate the Governor. (v2)

Judas knew he had done a great wrong. (v3) He stated that he had betrayed innocent blood.

Pilot asked him if he was the King of the Jews. (v11) Jesus did not respond to his accusers and did not defend himself.

The Chief Priests and Elders knew they were lying as they accused him.  It was obvious that Pilot knew Jesus was guilty of nothing. Pilate wife knew he was innocent (v19)

Everyone there including Pilot, his wife, the Chief Priests, the Elders, bystanders, and especially Jesus, knew what was going on.  Pilate was not distributing justice.  The Priests and Elders were not either.  They all know it. Jesus knew what was going to happen much earlier (Matthew 16:24)

Pilate was probably surprised with the crowd freeing Barabbas.  Barabbas was guilty of crimes against Rome and of Murder.  Why would they take Barabbas over Jesus?  Jesus hadn’t really done anything.

Only God can turn around such a sinful situation with premeditated murder, lying and loads of evil intent.  These things lead to the Grace and Love of God. Jesus turned this situation into our redemption and salvation.

Yes, everyone knew of the evil all around and still God was in control.

How much must Jesus love us?

(John 15:13) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Jesus laid down his life for everyone.  Even those who didn’t care and/or hated him.

(Romans 5:8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Easter is coming. So, what are you going to do about it?
