Abominations

What is an abomination? Generally, it is “something that causes hate or disgust”.  In the Bible abomination is used to describe something that God hates or is an offence to him.  Thus, a better question would be, what is an abomination to God.

Idolatry and false gods is an abomination to God.  It is embedded in the first two of the ten commandments. (Deuteronomy 17:2–527:1529:17Isaiah 66:3Jeremiah 32:34Ezekiel 5:911:18Hosea 9:10)

Child sacrifice is obviously an abomination to God. (Deuteronomy 18:9–1220:18;)  No need to wonder what God thinks about millions of babies killed on the alter of convenience every year.

Homosexuality and adultery are also on God’s list of things that are an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22–2920:13Deuteronomy 24:4)

Cross-dressing is not well thought of either. (Deuteronomy 22:5)

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Do not all these abominations look like a picture of society today?  Most of society regularly engages in the very behavior that God finds as an abomination. What is more, quite often they are proud of their behavior.

A simple answer to the question “what must I do to be saved” is repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 1:15).  Has society done this?  Have you done this?

So, God hates some things.  What are you going to do about it?
