A Real Friend

Updated: Mar 29, 2021

Suppose you found out about someone incredibly special. We are talking so cool he could be like the president or something. When people mention his name you always say, “Yep, I heard about him. He is something else.” Sometimes you get a little uptight about other people who seem to know more about him than you do. Some of them have even been to his house. You have an open invite, but you have not been to his house very often. Of course, you know he cares about you a lot because he has written you quite a bit. You have not actually taken the time to read much of it.

Question: Is he really your friend?

1) If he is really your friend and worthy, why is he worthy?

2) Has he ever asked you to do anything?

3) Would he know you if he saw you and why?

4) What have you done for him lately?

5) Do you know specific things about him? Where was he born? Who were his brothers and sisters?

6) Have you made assumptions about him that may or may not be true?

By now you should know I am talking about Jesus. He is a very good friend. He was willing to die for you in a most terrible and gruesome way. (John 3:16) He has given you things to learn and do (the Holy Bible) He has commanded you to gather with others on a regular basis for him. (Hebrews 10:25) You should be warned. He has never said if you are good enough you can come and be with me in heaven. (Romans 3:23)

So, if you are a Christian:

1) Do you know more about him this week than you did last week?

2) What have you done for him lately?

3) What has he done for you lately?

4) Can you name at least 5 things he has asked you to do? How is it coming?

Otherwise (or also)

1) Do you have the fortitude to look up the three verses listed above?

2) Going through the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) how many of them have you kept?

3) Read a little of the information written to us (Isaiah 53). Who is this chapter talking about? God’s letter (or words) to us is miraculous. How did Isaiah know this stuff 800 years ahead of time?

4) Someone in the Bible once said, “What must I do to be saved”. Do you know the answer to this question?
