Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” (2 Timothy 3:16)

All Scripture implies the entire Bible. The Bible references itself (the law) 529 times. The Bible talks about the law as the then commandments given by God and more general as the guidance given by God through the scriptures. All scripture means ALL scripture. The only way we can do what our father says is to know what he said.

Doctrine is things that are known to be true. The Bible talks specifically about adultery (33 times), fornication (35 times), bearing false witness (26 times), the Sabbath (146 times), and Blasphemy (12 times). It never once says that in your case (or my case) that it is OK in your case.

Reproof is an expression of blame and/or disapproval. “Whoever ignores instruction despise himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.” (Proverbs 15:32) “Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, reprove a wise man and he will love you.” (Proverbs 9:8) “Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.” (Proverbs 1:23) “Take heed to yourselves: If they brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.” (Luke 17:3-4)

Righteousness is a gift of God. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree” (Galatians 3:13)

Most people disregard much of the word of God. It is to be expected. “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

Lord, help us to rightly divide your word and do as you wish, and not as the world tells us. Amen

So now what are you going to do about it?
