A Journey Home

I was wandering in the wilderness, disoriented and uncertain, each step heavy with exhaustion. The dense trees and endless horizon offered no promise of direction. My body ached for rest, my mind for clarity. Just when despair threatened to consume me, I stumbled upon a kind soul—a guide who offered more than just sustenance. They gave me food and water, but more importantly, he showed me love and compassion. With careful hands, he wrote out directions, ensuring I could find my way home safely. His kindness was a beacon, illuminating a path forward.

"For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in." — Matthew 25:35

With new strength and certainty, I pressed on. The road ahead was still long, but now, I knew where I was going. The sun shone brighter, the air felt lighter, and hope surged within me. Along the way, I met others—lost, weary, wandering just as I had. Their eyes mirrored the same desperation I had once felt. I told them that: I had been lost but had found my way. Though I could not walk their path for them, I wished them well, hoping they too would find the guidance they needed.

"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." — Galatians 6:10

When I finally reached home, my father’s embrace was warm, his relief evident. His joy was undeniable, but as he looked beyond me, he asked, “What about the others? The ones you met along the way. They are my children too. Did you feed them? Did you bring them home?”

His words weighed heavily on my heart. I had been blessed with kindness, yet I had not extended the same in full measure. My father, the eternal guide, reminded me of a fundamental truth: we are all travelers, and none should be left behind.

Helping Others As You Were Helped

In this story, the father represents God—a loving presence who welcomes all His children home. He is the giver of life, direction, and grace. But His desire is not only for one child to find their way—it is for all to be guided, fed, and nurtured.

"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." — Hebrews 13:16

We are all lost at some point.  We don’t know where we are going, God put someone in your path. Someone to feed you and send you safely home.  Shouldn’t you strive to be that someone.  Except for the loving gift of God, his only son, we would all be doomed to starve and parish.

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." – Matthew 7:12

What are you going to do about it?
