Various surveys indicate that over 70% of people believe in angels. Overall, more people believe in them than Jesus. Only one problem, everybody thinks of something different. Many people think of a child like entity with little wings and a bow and arrow. Others think of beautiful female forms with large, beautiful wings. Others think of a see-through version of a person who has just died as they go to heaven. The trouble is none of these descriptions are valid.
They are not people who have died, they are creations of God. (Colossians 1:16, Nehemiah 9:6)
Genesis 2:1 Describes the creation of them. “the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them”.
We can name a few properties of them. They are spiritual beings (Psalm 104:4, Hebrews 1:14). They don’t marry (Matthew 22:30). They are immortal. They were created at one point in time, but they don’t die (Luke 20:36)
There is more than one kind of angel. A seraphim has six wings. (Isaiah 6:2) Cherubim also have wings. One of these guarded the way back to the garden of Eden. (Revelation 4:1-11, Genesis 3:22-24)
Archangels are mentioned only twice in scripture (1 Thessalonians 4:16, Jude 1:9) Michael is specifically mentioned. This may be a rank or a position rather than a different type of angel.
They can have physical bodies like we do (Luke 24:39). Sometimes they do this and interact with human beings (Genesis 18:1-8, Luke 11:1-20, 26-38) They cannot be seen by humans unless God allows it (Numbers 22:31, 2 Kings 6:17, Luke 2:13-14)
Scripture tells us more. Angels are powerful (2 Peter 2:11, Revelation 10:1) An angel defeated an army of a hundred and eighty-five thousand Assyrian soldiers. (2 Kings 19:35)
God assigns angels to protect those who fear him Psalm 24:7, 91:11-12)
Even Satan knew that God would send his angles to protect Jesus (Matthew 4:5-7, Psalm 91;11-12)
In conclusion, angels are much more impressive than the child like images many
