In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus shares a parable that speaks to the heart of our human desires and priorities. He says:

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it." (Matthew 13:45-46)

It seems much of the time we are in pursuit of things and fun.

This parable illustrates the contrast between earthly possessions and spiritual treasures. The merchant, in his quest for fine pearls, represents each of us in our pursuit of what we deem valuable. Earthly things—wealth, status, material possessions—often capture our attention and drive our ambitions. However, the parable teaches us that the kingdom of heaven, or spiritual fulfillment, is the ultimate treasure worth sacrificing everything for.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?(Mark 8:36)

As the culture is today, it's easy to become consumed by stuff. We work tirelessly to acquire the latest gadgets, nicest homes, and prestige. Yet, these earthly things, while providing temporary satisfaction, cannot compare to the eternal joy and peace found in spiritual riches.

As they say, you can’t take it with you. (Luke 12:16-21)

The parable of the Rich Fool explains this bluntly.

We should not store up for ourselves treasure on earth but instead store up for ourselves treasures in heaven. (Matthew 6:19-21)

This being the case, what are you going to do about it?
