The Problem of Evil

Many people avoid Religion because they are upset with God.  The big question is “Why do bad things happen to good people?”  It seems as though, if he really cared he would stop all the floods, earthquakes, wars, and bad things.  After all, God is love” (1 John 4:8)

Some other questions should help this. Do you love someone?  Do you love some more than others? If you are honest, you must say yes.  We have free will. You cannot love someone if hate is not possible. Choice and/or free will was our downfall in the Garden of Eden.  The earth was corrupted.  We were warned ahead of time and still chose evil (Genesis 3).  From the very beginning everything God said happened.

Angels don’t die.  They don’t grow old.  But, because of sin, we do die. Sin (our choice) is the culprit not God. Even knowing this, we don’t stop. We all keep on sinning and ask why bad things are happening. (Romand 3:23)

The Ten Commandments are in the Bible. Most of us don’t know where. (Exodus 20) We can’t name them.  We act like spoiled children.  We break the rules constantly and then complain when things don’t go our way.

We are at the point when we call good evil and evil good. (Proverbs 17:15, Isaiah 5:20, Romans 1:18-32)

The good news is that God has made a way for us even though we ignore him and break his heart constantly. (Romans 8:32) Yes, (almost) everyone still has to die.  Life on earth will not be fair. We can choose to live eternally with or without God.  We can choose hell. Again, it is our choice.

Jesus is the key.  He took the punishment for our sins so that we can live with God. (John 3:16) On the cross he said, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me.” (Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34) Sound familiar? All we need to do is repent (turn away from our sins) and believe in the one that took your punishment. (Mark 1:15)

Thus, sin and suffering are really our fault.  God has promised to be with us while we are here. (Deuteronomy 31:6) Why do we turn our back on him? In the end he will fix everything.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

What are you going to do about it?
